ASA Swim England Rainbow Stroke Award - Butterfly - 25m

Covering distances of between 5m and 1000m, the Rainbow Stroke Distance Awards complement Stages 1-7 of the Learn to Swim Framework.

Covering front crawl, breaststroke, backstroke and butterfly at 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 50 and 100m, the Rainbow Stroke Awards offer swimmers a further challenge after they have attained the Rainbow Distance Awards.

It is vital that swimmers develop good technique as early as possible and these awards can be used to reward and encourage the development of good stroke techniques.

Butterfly

Body Position: Close to surface, stokes initiated from the hips, legs kick from hips. Drive feet down forcefully.

Arms: Entry in line with shoulders. Hands scull out under the body.

Breathing: To the front or to the side. Head down before arms enter.

Timing:P kick as hands enter, kick as hands push.

Turns: After push, kick in stretch.

Finish: In stretch position, according to Law.
